In dit tafereel botst een zittend naakt van Modigliani op de Diana d’Anet (Louvre) in een ode aan de jacht, tegelijk een bespiegeling over de cyclus van leven en dood, waarin de vrouw net zoals in la Dame à la Licorne het levende middelpunt vormt tussen natuur, dieren, spiritualiteit en sterfelijkheid.… Of is Diana een alter ego van Venus en is de jacht er een tussen mannen en vrouwen?

In this scene, a seated nude by Modigliani collides with the Diana of Anet (Louvre) in an ode to the hunt, while also offering a reflection on the cycle of life and death, in which the woman—just as in The Lady and the Unicorn—forms the living center between nature, animals, spirituality, and mortality… Or is Diana an alter ego of Venus, and is the hunt one between men and women?

Dans cette scène, un nu assis de Modigliani se confronte à la Diane d’Anet (Louvre) dans une ode à la chasse, tout en proposant une réflexion sur le cycle de la vie et de la mort, où la femme—comme dans La Dame à la licorne—constitue le centre vivant entre la nature, les animaux, la spiritualité et la mortalité… Diane est-elle un alter ego de Vénus, et la chasse serait-elle celle qui se joue entre les hommes et les femmes ?

De coverillustratie van Hans Theys’ monografie “Troubadour” over Clément Jacques-Vossen komt hier tot leven: de zot uit de tarot is nar geworden, onderweg met zijn rugzak, walking like an Egyptian, met de bellen van zijn muts die evenzoveel manen worden, net zoals zijn gezicht, en op één ervan Le Petit Prince – en de slang natuurlijk. Op zijn borst vele pins van plaatsen die hij heeft bezocht: Beijing, Lille, Columbia … Het schilderij is linksboven gesigneerd met Clements wapenschild.

The cover illustration of Hans Theys’ monograph Troubadour on Clément Jacques-Vossen comes to life here: the Fool from the tarot has become a jester, on the road with his backpack, walking like an Egyptian, with the bells of his cap turning into as many moons, just like his face, and on one of them The Little Prince—and the snake, of course. On his chest are many pins from places he has visited: Beijing, Lille, Columbia… The painting is signed in the upper left with Clément’s coat of arms.

L’illustration de couverture de la monographie Troubadour de Hans Theys consacrée à Clément Jacques-Vossen prend ici vie : le Fou du tarot est devenu un bouffon, en route avec son sac à dos, walking like an Egyptian, les grelots de son bonnet se transformant en autant de lunes, tout comme son visage, et sur l’une d’elles Le Petit Prince — et bien sûr le serpent. Sur sa poitrine figurent de nombreux pins provenant des lieux qu’il a visités : Beijing, Lille, Columbia… Le tableau est signé en haut à gauche avec les armoiries de Clément.
